Rhapsody In Blue

Is anyone familiar with a transcription of Rhapsody In Blue for trumpet and piano? I team teach (band) with a guy who played this transcription by a Russian composer. He told me that it works well for clarinet. It would loose a lot, in my opinion, right from the glissando. How would a trumpet play that! I presume the piano did the gliss.
I did not do an internet search, waiting for information as to how to best obtain this transcription.

I'll bet that trumpet player with Paul Shaffer's Band on David Letterman could do the gliss just fine and make it a lot smoother than most clarinetists perform it. A full range gliss is easier on a trumpet, anyhow--just push all the valves half-way down and go for it.

I picked up one that had both Eb alto sax and a generic Bb part marked trumpet and tenor sax abouit two months ago. I have used the Eb part on the alto clarinet and the Bb part on the bass. Both are decent. Unfortunately I'm away from my music right now but I seem to have picked it up in one of the big on line stores like JW Pepper. try googling Rhapsody in Blue and see what comes up.

Thanks for the information. I was not familiar with JW Pepper. I find this a good site. I still haven't found that version of Rhapsody, but will continue searching.

Ok am answering this from home.

Here's the details:

Andante and Finale from George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue", transcribed by Walter Beeler. WB Music Corp. Alfred Publishing Co., Van Nuys CA 91410

There are three parts:

One in Eb for alto and bari saxes, one in Bb for clarinet, cornet, etc. and a bass part for trombone and baritone. I have used the Bb part on bas and Bb clarinet and the Eb part on Eefer and alto clarinet.

Good luck in your search. try shhet music.coim too. They have a lot.
