No real benefits besides being there as a reinforcement to make you wipe the keywork down before putting your clarinets away.
Provided the case has a soft lid cushion and the duster/polishing cloth (non-impregnated type) is laid down opened out completely flat on top, you won't do any harm to your clarinet.
If you do keep an impregnated silver polishing cloth with your gear, always keep it in a plastic bag to stop it drying out and collecting dust, and don't put this in the case on top of your clarinet as it'll be too thick which will bend keywork - keep it in the inside case compartment or in the pocket on the case cover (or between the case cover and case lid if there's no pocket).
