Hi guys I have a wooden clarinet with the number 142;
I can't find info on its year or value anywhere,
it says "Made in France for SELMER London England "
with GOLD SEAL in the middle
does anyone know who could value this for me???

Hi Will- Probably Chris P can give you the best info re: early Selmers made specifically for G B . Here on the BBoard, we have Listings and History of major mfgrs. in our "How Old is My" scection under Equipment, I believe, which may help you. As to age, I have a Selmer A, Ser # 36xx, dated to 1929, and believe the HS on it's pieces implys tuning by Henri himself. So your # might indicate a very early date. Value, to a collector, might be significant IF its in "good" condition/restorable. Again, Chris may be able to help you here. Luck, Don

The Selmer 'Gold Seal' was made by Malerne for Selmer (London), and was the model above the Malerne-built 'Sterling' and the 'Console', though there wasn't a huge difference between these clarinets.
Does it still have the metal disc (this is the 'Gold Seal' but it's made from brass!) stuck on the top joint?
As far as value goes, you may get between £250-350 for it (in good working order) if you choose to sell it on, though for insurance purposes it should be valued for the same price as a Buffet E11.
