The ARD competition started this week. Some of it will be on radio, I think.

Any one knows Christopher Pell? He didn't make it to the second round but someone told me that he is very good. Is it true that he is only 16?

Christopher Pell is about 17 and two years ago won the concerto competition with my orchestra, for students under the age of 19. He did a very nice job on the Copland Concerto.

He lives in NY, is a senior at the LaGuardia Arts High School, a student in the Juilliard Pre-College Division and is a pupil of Ayako Oshima Neidich.

Thats interesting, how did he get into the comprtition if he is under 18, even 18 is very young for that competition.

Thank you GBK,
Sarah

GBK, Chris is now a student of Jon Manasse. He is a very talented young clarinetist- definitely watch for him in the future.

Any one is following the competitin?
This is the first time since 1968 that someone got the first prize in clarinet!
In 1968 it was Frank Cohen, and now Sebastian Manz from Germany.
Shelly Ezra (Israel) and Taira Kaneko (Japan) got the third prize together.

Yes, I know, isn't that amaizing. Lubeck is probably the best clarinet school
now. Last year, Shirley Brill, also a student of Sabine won the Geneve competition.

 Congratulations to them all!!

*Simone, this might be a long shot, but the location is right. Is that you from the summer course in Blonay last year? If so, I have a lot of pictures for you to see. Can you email me?

He's probably 17 (or 18), so most likely a high school senior...GBK
