Start from top to bottom:

- does the mouthpiece alone play? (I mean, with a reed on)
- does the mouthpiece and barrel play?
- would above play with the upper joint? How far down?
- would above play with the lower joint? How far down?

The pad above the note where it's getting difficult is the (topmost) culprit. Some others may lurk further down.

Take that first note away from the mouthpiece (down the clarinet) that's giving you trouble. Blow at what SHOULD be a mezzoforte, and have a third person start pushing pads harder against the clarinet. If the added pressure makes it go from "fuzzy/airy/nothing" to "mezzoforte sound", that pad is certainly A culprit. Maybe not the only one, but at least you've found one.

Nearly all new clarinets, professional and student horns alike, have padding problems. A small leak in the upper joint will sabotage the entire instrument. Find a repair tech who specializes in clarinets.

yes, i know for a fact that the mouthpiece and barrel plays as well as the joints because it was working completely fine literally a day before it happened and i noticed that at first i could only play notes while holding down the spatula keys on the lower joint.. but after about an hour or so of playing, i could play the D in addition to the C and B.. (with the octive key) and it slowly started warming up to it but im not sure what that means.. and my band teacher said it might be the pads reacting to not having been played very often but i dunno... i looked at all the pads but didnt see anything out of the ordinary (yet again wasnt sure i shoud have been looking for anyhting more specific) and the next day it was still like that so for now i took out my old one and am using that for the time being...

I don't know if this will help or not (probably not)...

but one time, my clarinet could only play a few notes because one of the screws in the upper joint was almost completelyunscrewed. The screw was sticking out A LOT.

It's not exactly clear what notes you can play and what notes you can't. Do you really can play only the middle B, C, C# and D, and no other note would play? How about the throat Bb? Check, and if throat Bb plays, start going down and see where exactly it stops.
