Sometimes Silver Plated Key Auctions aren't Silver at all

I've seen 2 recent Clarinet Auctions where the Clarinet (Buffet R-13's) were described as being Silver Plated.

A quick lookup of the serial # on Buffet indicated that the model #'s weren't Silver Plating at all (were in fact Nickel).

I actually got one of them from a name NYC Music Store - and I don't mean a Guitar Store either, that they didn't see that it was Nickel Plated. Right away I saw that it wasn't Silver as any Clarinetist who plays Silver would see. Their Auction lister guy was a Clarinetist too!!!

Got a full refund on that one.

jeez.....

sort of related - i recently saw an auction for a new R13 - the photo was of an E11 - the seller denied it when i emailed...

y'all need to be real careful out there when visiting auction sites.

I bought a rather pricey horn from a seller who didn't mention it had been cracked and repaired. Such is Life....Buyer Beware.....and it's obviously not just the auction sites.

Just called the Music Store (R.B. initials) to make sure that they did recieve the Clarinet back and they had yesterday. The guy says to me "ya know, that clarinet sells for $2700"

Uh yeah, NEW......... that one was from 1985

And the pad regulation looked horendous though most were new. Had super thin cheap looking pads and the instrument smelt like it had sat around for years.

Buyer beware
