just got a used Ridenour TR147 from 'that' site. wanted to report that it works 'very" well for anyone who is considering getting one. nice tone, easy to play, nice key action.

I'll bet the intonation is right on!

I have one of these and it's a good beginner clarinet for me because the intonation is right on. that's one less thing to worry about.

Good beginner, but also I find one of mine to be superior to my Concertos, which I sold, and to any other clarinet I have played. It can happen , for any make and model, but rarely.

As I have said before, I have several of these TR 147s. I wonder if I should think about asking TR if I could send the best one back to him for a bit of "tricking out?" I think he does this on some of the newer models.

Although my key work is probably a little less deluxe than later models, the intonation and ergonomics are superb. Maybe a little tweaking???

This is kind of like the days when we would put V-8 Chevy engine in a 39 Ford!

".......I wonder if I should think about asking TR if I could send the best one back to him for a bit of "tricking out?"......"

Wouldn't hurt to ask him! He's always been exceptionally friendly and honest when I've contacted him with questions.
By the way, if you've never had the chance to try his Lyrique Custom, you owe yourself to try one (especially if you really like the 147). One of my students had an Arioso that had been tweaked a bit by Tom. It was good, but my Lyrique was great by comparison. To me, the tone of the Lyrique was just better. More "mature" is the word that comes to mind. I believe the different bore design of the Lyrique Custom makes the difference. Really, you should try one...you might like it even better than your best 147! Of course, he may be able to "customize" your 147 to be more like the Lyrique Pro. See what he says!

JW,

Good idea but "you might like it even better than your best 147" will not work since my Yamaha CS Custom is my #1 clarinet with a LeBlanc L200 as the backup. Talk about a mature sound.
