David Maslanka Clarinet Solo with Band
Author: NHClarinetLady23

Hello again!

I recently heard a recording of a clarient solo by David Maslanka (a former clarinetist himself) and wondered if anyone knows where I can get a copy. I have looked everywhere and it isn't published yet and I figured if I asked him he would just tell me to wait until its published. The thing is I want to play it this Spring. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! :-)

I would recommend getting in touch with the composer himself. His website will come up with a quick google search. A year or so ago he was nice enough to send a CD, solo part, and score out to me upon request since neither the print music or recording are available commercially, at very little charge. Very sweet man. And a good piece too!

I LOVE A Child's Garden of Dreams (another work by him). Check it out if you haven't heard it.

The UofC Wind Ensemble's version is undoubtedly the best...

I had the pleasure of going to a pre-concert discussion that he was giving at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and was completely blown away by him. I've played a few pieces by him and the SIUE wind symphony was the second to play a piece by him and all of his music is excellent. What impressed me the most is how he handwrites all of his scores... He had the score of the song they were playing that night and it was just incredible...

David Maslanka is undoubtedly one of the premiere composers these days of band music. My high school wind ensemble commissioned a piece by him (Chorale Variations) and his clarinet solo piece can be had directly from him (go to his website). A recording I think was going to be commercially made available. But it sounds like you have that covered.
