When playing a German clarinet with a German mouthpiece, is there a noticeable difference between securing the reed with string, leather, fabric or metal ligature?

 Which do you prefer?

I have tried string and fabric ligature (on a German Schreiber clarinet with a German Viotto N1 mouthpiece and German Steuer S100 reeds) and could not find any difference in the sound. Neither could people I asked to listen to me playing.

What I did find, though, was that the ligature makes it much easier to adjust the reed position, so I prefer the ligature.

But I believe there are a lot of religious wars on this, so you should probably just decide for yourself.

If a traditionalist insists that you must use string, not a ligature, just point out that Sabine Meyer uses a ligature and it hasn't held her career back.
