Seems the bass spot is up for grabs too. Any predictions?

Too bad the audition parts aren't online.

The current Bass Clarinetist Stephen Freeman is using Leon Lester's Clarinet from the 1950's.

Cool.

David -

Are you sure about Leon Lester? He was in the Philadelphia Orchestra. I had heard that Freeman got an ancient Selmer from his predecessor in New York, whose name escapes me.

LSO bass and New York Phil bass up at the same time. Maybe Stenhouse and Freeman are job swapping ;o)

Here's a prediction - I might apply for it.

Unless the NYPO has it wrong in Stephen Freeman's bio page, yes I'm sure :)

I studied with Lester in High School - long after that Bass Clarinet was gone.

Stephen Freeman's predecessor in NY was Leonard Schaller (NYPO 1946- 1964)

David -

I stand corrected. Memory cells . . . dying fast.

Shannon Orme...she just won the Bass job in the Detroit Symphony. She studied with Lawrie Bloom at Northwestern and Yehuda Gilad at USC...she is really truly amazing!
