Does anyone know who was playing the clarinet solo for Rhapsody on the Fantasia 2000 soundtrack?? That is by far my favorite interpretation.

The Wikipedia article on Rhapsody is worth a read (can't vouch for its accuracy). I'd wondered why the clarinet part contained sections for Clarinet in A, not something you'd expect to find in a jazz band; evidently this is a later adaption for standard orchestra.
It seems the original (1924) orchestration included a heckelphone, of all unlikely instruments.

Hello,
As far as Gallodoro being past his prime, at the Utah ICA convention 4 (?) years ago, they had an all-star jazz concert, including Eddie Daniels, Phil Woods, Tad Calcarra, and it seems like there was one other star, who I can't remember. Also, of course, was Gallodoro, who blew everyone away--no competition, in my opinion.

Regarding the great Al G, Les Thimmig told me that Al said (a couple of yrs ago), "I have to practice three hours a day just to keep what I've got". How many of us will still be that committed at 90+ yrs old?? Or even now.....

Of some interest:
I've performed the Rhapsody many times, and recently recorded it here in NYC with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall.
The piano soloist was also our conductor for the evening, Stuart Molina.
Give a listen to the opening cadenza as my webpage opens.
For a live performance, with the only rehearsal that afternoon, it sounds OK.
What do you guys think???
