In April, janlynn initiated a thread in her search for a new clarinet case. It started out with questions about a Buffet pochette and ended up with a suggestion, from pdkbach, that she try a plastic case from Universal, a compact model with rounded edges reminiscent of some older Buffet cases. It generally sells online for $44.
Janlynn said she was going to buy it.
Now, I'm starting my own search, having just bought a beautiful old Evette & Schaeffer. I like the style of the Universal case, but I'd need a case cover, too.
Web sites that display the Universal show only the exterior.
Janlynn (if you're reading) did you buy this case? Do you like it? What's the interior like?
thanks in advance.

I'm not Janlynn (obviously), but I ordered this case after reading that thread. It had a black plush interior. I ended up returning it because the LH lower joint keys (of my Lyrique Bb clarinet) didn't fit snugly in the case. The joint lay in the case at an angle rather than flush with the case. It might depend on the clarinet model; it was a compact and apparently sturdy case. I ordered from 1800usaband.com, and had no problems with the order or with the return; it might be worth a try for you.
Hope this helps

Take a look at Wichitaband.com. They sell lots of used Buffets and often include a very nice French style case with them. I bought one a while ago for $50.00?. Fits my Evette Master Model very well. Good luck....

No, not yet. Good luck with your search.

The Grrrrrr case. Hmmm. The exterior, as subtle as it is, is far too sedate for the riot within.
Your post brightened my day, but I think I'll continue my search. My teacher says he knows a guy who knows a guy who might have been able to get a good used pochette. BUT, one of those guys seems to have vanished. So my quest continues.

Wayne,
I e-mailed Wichita Band early this afternoon and received a reply from a member of its sales staff a few hours later. The store does indeed have a solid-looking pochette, in molded black plastic, for $50. At my request, the salesman sent three photos. It looked fine, and I bought it over the phone.
Thanks for the fine suggestion.

yes, i got the case. it is "ok". i wanted it becuz i had so much stuff in my clarinet bag including case, books, and binders to keep my lessons in. I like it for this purpose becuz it takes up less space than the case my lyrique came in.
however, if i wasnt putting it in the bag, i would not keep it. i dont like the handle. i have very small hands and even i have a hard time getting my hand underneath the handle to hold it. luckily i dont carry it around with me - just pull it out of the bag. my clarinet does not fit that well in it either. has good latches tho. lol
for the price and for what i wanted it for ...it works so i kept it. like the case my selmer signature came in much better. oh well.

janlynn--
thanks so much for responding.
i'm planning to use the case much as you do, as a compact way to protect the clarinet inside a case cover, with music, reed case, etc.
i was struck by your reference to the Selmer signature case. my teacher and i were talking about cases today. he plays Buffet instruments exclusively, but for years he has carried around one of his R13 Bb's in a used Selmer signature case. He loves it.

Your most welcome Weberfan! Mine has worked out fine and spends most of it's time in an olathe bag. I just checked the website and I think the case is made by a company called MTG. Wichita band calls it the " flat case ". I can't find a website for MTG for pictures etc to share with others.
