I'm sorry if this topic has been covered recently (I'm new to the board), but I was wondering if anyone has tried to recycle the plastic cases that reeds are packed in. I have been able to recycle the boxes, and I'm going to turn my old reeds into mulch....(ha, ha, revenge at last!).......but I just don't know what to do with my left over plastic reed containers. I haven't been able to bear throwing them out and I have quite a pile sitting and waiting for #5 recyclables (or whatever number they are) to be accepted in my area, but I don't see this happening anytime soon.
I was wondering what anyone else has been doing, or if anyone had any other thoughts on this topic. Thanks!!

I was told by someone that worked for vandoren that you can send them to a vandoren studio and have them filled with new reeds. This will cost the same as a regular box, but you are saving the plastic... but you use gas on the shipping. Lesser evil?
I have an ever growing bag of reed holders. Maybe I can make a holiday decoration from them like Martha Stuart would.

Do you guys not use those Vandoren plastic holders? Do you use seperate reed holders?
I actually quite like those plastic thing.

Thanks for posting this, I've been wondering the same thing, and I have an ever-growing collection of those Vandoren plastic things. Now with the individually wrapped flow-packaging, there's even more waste. I think I will start a recycling effort and get my students to also save the plastic things, then I will send a giant box of them all together to the Vandoren company. Skygardner, would one send them to the Vandoren place in New York to be refilled?
I have a large stockpile of vandoren reeds, but when they're gone, I may switch to the Rico Grand Concert or something. The packaging is more environmentally friendly.

Really? I tend to get tripped up more easily by the kind that make you insert the reed tip-first... I shredded a heap of Evolution that way. At least the Vandoren ones go heel-first; I used to like them a lot. But now I've got this little wooden box with a glass plate in from Wiseman (Xmas gift...)
Hey, remember the old Rico packaging with all that fluffy paper wadding in? :-)

AW reeds also have all paper packeging. And even better than that... they are good reeds.
Lori- yes, the New York studio does offer that service. There is no price difference from a regular box, though.
