How old is this R13?

The rings look pretty flat on top and angled in at the sides (like Selmer rings) which could mean the ring keys may have been replaced (Buffet rings have rounded tops to them and the sides are almost parallel), though the shape of the 'ramp' part isn't like a Selmer at all (which has a trapezoid-shaped ramp).

Going slightly off-topic, the only production clarinet I've seen which doesn't have the ramp part on the linkage at all is the Selmer 10G, which makes it doubly important to keep the top joint rings held down during assembly to avoid ripping the cork off. Saying that, my old Selmer basset horn doesn't have the ramp either.

this 1936 Buffet has no ramps at all (ok, not an R-13)

but my 1955 R-13 does have ramps similar to that but i'll have to check

I just checked, my Buffet full Boehm (early-'60s) doesn't have any ramps either!

Just curious about the shape of the rings themselves - did Buffet use these 'Selmer' shaped rings at any point? I know the DG had flattened tops to the rings, but that was a fairly recent clarinet that didn't stay in production for long.

On my really old Buffets, there is no ramp on the top or bottom part of the bridge key. On my R13 from the '60s, the top has a ramp.

The one in the photo has a Buffet-shaped ramp (round cornered rectangular one), though it's on the 'wrong' part for a Buffet.

Just the tenon ring looks to be '30s-'50s to me. I wonder if it is an after-market soldering modification??? Ricardo- If you take the key off is there any place with a thin line of slightly different color???

I'm pretty sure that clarinet was not made by Buffet...maybe Vytas will chime in soon.

Buffet NEVER used this type of keywork on ANY pro clarinet. Keywork similar to this appeared on Evette and Schaeffer, Evette and Schaeffer "Master Model" and Sponsored by Buffet student level clarinets that have been made for Buffet by other companies like Malerne, SML etc.

Does the lower joint carry the Buffet logo and matching serial number?

Looks like this clarinet has had a hard life!

These are mismatched parts. The Upper-Joint is an R13 the Lower-Joint is not. Most of Buffet/Malerne E&S clarinets do not have a logo on the Lower-Joint.
