I may not like their products, but I love the new look. The old website wasn't bad, either.

On their fabulous new website, Morrie includes a quote from J. Cohler who says he uses a Backun barrel and "bell" on his Rossi clarinet. Rossi clarinets lower joint and bell are made in one piece...how a Bakun bell can be fitted to it is not clear. Maybe he saws Luis's bell off and slaps his own on!? A 20 year old photo for ID is also included.

He's selling mouthpieces as well, so that might explain.

I'm not commenting on the über-use of flash. But visually impaired people surely will love him for that.

Old Geezer states:

"Rossi clarinets lower joint and bell are made in one piece"

I was under the impression that the upper and lower joints were one piece. I believe that the one I played a few years ago was of this design. On the video at the opening page of his site

http://www.rossiclarinet.com/

you see a number of barrels on shelves behind him, which would give the impression that these are made separately. Maybe someone who has one can tell us more.

Yeh, Rossi clarinet upper and lower joints are made in one piece the bell separate. Still J.C. should know better... what's the point of buying a Rossi clarinet if you're going to throw the barrel out! J.C. actually sells Rossi clarinets from his website, wonder what Luis thinks of his barrel preference?

Why do people still make websites with flash?

As much as I love Flash, I'll have to agree that an entire site done with it just isn't as user-friendly as one that isn't.

We had to do one in my webmastering class, and it turned out half of what it could've been if the project hadn't restricted us to a site done entirely in Flash.

Rossi barrel and bell are separate items, I doubt either was ever an integrated part of the one piece that normally comprise the 1st and 2nd joint.

Flashsmash the new webssite has got me transfixed!! I'm manfully (so far) resisting the temptation to order one of the $500 mouthpices pronto. I need an intervention...what do you guys know about these mouthpieces. I'm using an M13 or M15 right now with OK results I guess.

The stimulous tax rebate will cover it but I don't know. I don't mind stimulating the ecomony but I want a mouthpiece at least clearly better than the ones I'm using. Will I get one from Bakun? Tell me something clarinet buddies....

I had a chance to perform on "The Bliss" at the 2008 Namm show. Aside from the keyboard being a smidge down sized, for younger players, It sounded really good. I played the one that was completly "non wood", I know if I call it Plastic, someone will tell me it's a "space aged polamar, or graphite or something, I think it will be a clarinet that will be in every giging clarinetists car, for those "ac set to artic" gigs. The one that really kicked butt had the cocobola barrel and bell on it, That clarinet could be the horn I use on weddings and Bar Mitvahs, but I haven't played the all wood one yet! I haven't heard what the prices will be yet, but I know they were put out to be in that E11 price point. The E11 is the clarinet that most of my middle school students play, last year at Music and Arts you could get one for $799 I think that was a lot of clarinet for the money. Can't wait to play these for my students.

Old Geezer said "The stimulous tax rebate will cover it but I don't know. "

I think Bush wanted to stimulate the USA economy. Backun is in Canada.
The prices on the flash are in Canadian dollars.

Last update I got on the Bliss models was that they are planning on getting the plastic models out before the start of the new school year, so hopefully late July early August with the wood model out before Christmas.

Maybe it's just me, but an entire site done in Flash just seems to always come out sub-par.

But, like I said before, I love my Flash.

You are so right. And, imagine my delight at the author of the quote on that page! Russ was the best clarinet teacher I'd had the pleasure of studying with. I also played bass clari back in the day - Russ asked me during one lesson if he could play my bass - he couldn't get a note out of it! "I don't know how you even play that thing," were his words, I believe.

Save one for me, Dave. Your prices are great!

There is no need to saw the bell because it is not part of the one-piece lower joint. Barrel and bell are removable as in any other clarinet. Backun bells works nicely on Rossi clarinets.
