Purchasing and Trying German System Clarinets in the States.

Hi,

I've been curious for a while to explore Oehler System clarinets but I am sure there is a very limited market for them here.

I've read a lot of great information on here on playing them coming from a french perspective and would like to to check them out. Point me in the appropriate direction please!

If it helps at all, Chicago is home base for me.

International Musical Suppiers may be able to help. They certainly do carry more international reeds and mouthpieces. I believe they are still up in the Evanston area.

The last time I checked, Frederic Weiner is a Wurlitzer dealer. They MAY be able to get an Oehler version to try if you can get to Long Island NY.

International Musical Suppliers is not what you think it might be anymore. Since Lisa left it has become a front-end for eBay.

Send me an email at sensha@earthlink.net, and I'll cover my experiences with the purchase of an Oehler horn.

Just thought of another contact. Thomas Reichle of Holzblaeser in Berlin <thomas.reichle@holzblaeser.com>

I'm sure he'll have oehler horns!

Hi, BornAgainClarinetist :)

I've played Albert, Simple System and Oehler all my life. I "double" on Boehm sometimes for the fun of it but my preference is the Albert, with its "patent C# mechanism", of course. They pop up on eBay periodically. If you can do your own re-padding etc., that might be one practical and economical way to learn about them from the inside out. I live on the west coast, USA. Feel free to contact me off-line if you wish.
