 Solo electronics

So, I've been experimenting with with hip hop/African rhythms on bass clarinet, and someone told me I should begin with electronics and see about some potential gigs. The problem is I have no understanding of electronics at all. What standard machinery would be recommended for a solo performer? I once saw a cellist with a system that had recorded beats on some pedal or something he pressed his foot on, and he could combine them.

You will need a microphone or pickup, depending on your needs and budget.. There are several separate threads here which discuss this,

The cellist you heard probably had a sequencer. You can use this to perform over pre-recorded tracks, or you can record tracks as you go and play over them.

You can do lots to alter your sound, such as running it through a guitar effects processor. (This is what interests me the most.) The more effects the better, as clarinet has a relatively simple waveform and it will take a lot of processing to change it. Some of the single-function boxes do a good job on guitar, but the multi-function boxes, which emulate effects using DSP, will give you more versatility in a single package. I have a Line6 Pod XT Live, which has been superceded by a newer model with more goodies. This gives you lots of choices for processing, and it integrates well with a PC to record, save patches, and download patches from the manufacturer's website directly into the unit. Still, I find there are a limited number of combinations which make sense to use with a soprano clarinet. This may be different for ur clarineto basso.

Who else will you be performing with? What kind of equipment will they be using?

Regards
