 Stravinski "Three Pieces"
Author: William
Date:   2008-04-06 19:27

I recall hearing a story about how he was inspired to write these pieces after listening to a jazz clarinetist testing reeds between sets and was wondering if anyone could provide verify this as fact or discount it as fiction. I'll be performing these Three Pieces soon and would like to tell this story to the audience, but only if it is true.

Thank you, Tony. I looked up Sherman's posting, but neglected to think of Rossario. Excellant resource and good reading.

There are many stories about the 3 Pieces. Here are a few:

I thought that William was looking for evidence that HIS story was TRUE, rather than looking for the sort of stories that we might make up to capture musical ideas.

We should surely try to make the distinction.

Incidentally, I suppose that in Abe Galper's post that Ken references:

....he's quoting the experience of Augustin Duques (of having Stravinsky shout out to him in the concert) rather than describing an experience of his own?
