Recently got my first legere reed and really like it. I'm using it on a crystal Pete Fountain mp with a vd optimum ligature and I'm having a bit of a problem with the reed
sliding around. I can't seem to get the proper tension on the ligature - if I tighten the ligature it tends to slide up unexpectedly. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced a similar problem? I guess the cane reeds were somewhat thinner at the base and with the rougher surface had more friction against the glass.

Another observation about the legere reed - it seems softer than the cane reeds (a legere 3 = about a 2.5 vd reed). Have others noticed that as well?

 Dave I use to use a 2 1/2 cane reed with the Lagere (which I love0 I'm using a 3 1/2 reed have a 4 on order.
With my Lurie (glass) mp the only thing that has worked well with it is a Plasticover reed. don't ask me why-- I just works.
Hope this helps you
Bob

In a recent & similar discussion here on the Bulletin Board, Riccardo Clerici of Pomarico recommended a BG Ligature be used with the Pomarico crystal mouthpiece. I would assume, here, that slippage relates to the glass-like surface of crystal. It doesn't sound, ottomh, like it is a problem related to the Legere reed itself. I own a couple of Legeres and have used them with a Borbeck mpc w/a BG Revelation ligature. I have tried the V/D Optimum (which I like) on a crystal mpc. & quickly thought better of it for myself. But that was me ... everbody's experience is their own. mw
