The video below is an excellent example of the way orchestra directors used to take advantage of players before the Musician's Union put in rules about doubling. Playing clarinet is a full-time job. Adding saxophone is an additional challenge. But adding accordion, banjo and singing? That's just over-the-top...

Also see "Phil Spitalney" and his all girl band on YT. Those girls were glad to have a job back then.

All girl bands are still with us--we have one right here is Madison, WI called "Ladies Must Swing" and swing they do. They are getting three times the work of both big bands (combined) that I play with and have been contacted by the Tonight Show for a future appearance. When that happens, I'll let y'all know.......
