Chadash "A" vs. "Bb"

I have been searching the posts about chadash barrels, but I have specific question I hope someone can answer:

Is there a physical difference between a 66m "A" buffet/chadash barrel and a 66m "Bb" buffet/chadash barrel?

I notice the two are always listed as separate items in catalogs and online, so I assume there is a difference that I am unaware of. I have played a chadash on my Bb for years and love it. I'm hoping to get one on my A as well, and so the above question came to mind... I currently play a 65m on my A, but I'm planning to go to the 66m. I tried my 66m Bb barrel on my A and the intonation is good.

The "A" barrel usually has a smaller bore because the A clarinet has a smaller bore. Most players use separate barrels for this reason but some use the same one on both. It all depends on intonation and tone. Try some A barrels and see what difference it makes. Remember, there is no consistency in any manufactures so try several. ESP

Yes indeed....the internal bore dimensions differ between A and Bb clarinets*.
However...some players find that they are able to use one barrel on both instruments, but this is NOT usually the case.

*There IS an exception to this rule...Selmers (at least the Recitals, anyway) maintain the same bore diameters for A and Bb.

Sometimes you may need to change clarinets very quickly and in this case it would be better to have one barrel for both.
Since each clarinet/barrel/mouthpiece is an interworking system you CAN use the same barrel for both, BUT you have to have your Bb and A regulated and adjusted so that there are no problems with pitch. It CAN be done, but it is usually better to get a different barrel for both. My setup has a totally different barrels for my Bb and A.

Yes, I agree, the clarinet, mouthpiece, and barrel is , or should be, an integrated system. The integration is usually done by the buyer/player, but it would seem that all manufacturers could offer such systems, perhaps with a selection of mpcs. I have read that Selmer does this for the Recital. Any others?

Thanks for the responses- I am glad to know that the "A" barrel does indeed have a smaller bore. Can't wait to get my hands on a few and pick one!
