 US patent stamp

I have an old Noblet Alto Clarinet – Serial # 21XX US Patent – RE. 23.725.
Anybody know about the stamp indicating the US Patent?
It is Paris made...France not Tennessee. It is very heavy when compared to another Noblet and a Leblanc that I have. Recently a local fella sold a similarly marked alto clarinet on e-bay and he noted that he had never seen one marked like that. Any ideas?
