I was thinking of buying a new clarinet.
my price range is around 200 to 2000
my level is intermediate/advanced
i was thinking of getting a artley 110sg
or maybe a buffet r13 greenline or e11
do you have any ideas on which clarinet i should get?
a new one or used one or maybe you have seen one somewhere
any help would be appreciated

Best suggestion I can make is--- try before buy. There are some fine, artist quality instruments, but all models of all brands vary considerably, even when new. Consider having a professional pick one for you.

Try a Leblanc Cadenza by Backun, well under $2000 and a top quality horn. Dave Kessler of Kessler Music is good to deal with, has them in stock and is a sponser here.
A great teacher gives you answers to questions
you don't even know you should ask.

New as in "replacement", or new as in "I want one that's never been played"? There's some great USED clarinets that would be new to you, and save you some $$$ that you can spend on mouthpieces (like I would!!!)

Get in touch with Walter Grabner (google him for his website). He handpicks used instruments to sell on his website. He has some great instruments on his website, and he lets you try them before you buy them. You won't be disappointed with anything from his website, but I suggest the R13.

IMO, cost/benefit-wise, I'd skip the intermediate clarinet and go straight for pro. While it may cost a little extra, if you ARE interested in a well-loved used pro horn, you can often find one for the price of a new intermediate. And with testing out the used ones, you'll find one you LOVE that sounds amazing.
Not to mention, if your budget truly is up to 2000, you can afford a new pro model. Take your time selecting one and try out whatever you can. Or go through someone like Walter Grabner (like mentioned above) who has already taken the time to select a horn they deem good so you will already have a good clarinet to test.
Lastly, if you have a teacher or know any clarinetists whose opinions you trust, have them test out the horn as well. They may be able to help you choose or point out good/bad things that they know from testing many horns throughout their career.

I don't think you can get a new R13, in grenadilla or greenline for the price you are thinking of paying. You can find used ones within that range, though.
Others to consider:
Backun/Leblanc Cadenza (as mentioned above)
You might find a new/old stock Selmer, Yamaha or Leblanc pro horn that has been discontinued and is on someone's stock and get a very nice buy.
Also oinvestigate http://www.ridenourclarinetproducts.com and look at the Lyrique 576 bc. It's a pro grade clarinet, comes with a few nice extras, and will never crack or experience bore instability, as it's made from hard rubber. You can get the top of the line for less than a grand!

Jeff has a point. I bought a ridenour lyrique and used it for a few months with my groups. Sounded and felt great. Then I had to pack it up to ship home and started using an R13 prestige. And the instant I used that R13 I realized just how much value I had in the lyrique. I can't wait to receive my lyrique back in the mail (mailed it to myself from overseas) so I can pack away that R13 prestige and play my (not even arguably) better one

I thought I remembered you saying you had bought one of the Lyriques, but the photos I saw of you looked like you were playing a wodden horn, so I thought I was having memories of someone else mentioning a Lyrique.

I didn't get a lyrique until after those pictures. Unfortunately, most of our deployment pictures are on the army band website (the one where you need to have a DOD AKO login name/password to view them). I don't know if any of them would be considered secure enough not to release to the public, but I'll ask our PAO people (Public Affair Officers . . . I think) if I can take some of those pictures and insert a few of them or if (would be better) they are planning a civilian website where anyone could access them and see us in action over in Iraq.
