Spectacular technique and timbre by Girko in Delos CD DE3216, featuring seven "new" pieces by Gershwin, along with the usual Gershwin favorites.

 Hello,

Steve Girko was my teacher (as well as Loris Wiles, David Etheridge and Steve Cohen).

He's a great player, teacher, and person.

I need to buy this cd!

I studied with Girko one summer at Brevard Music Center. He was quite a character. He made his own reeds from scratch and made one for each of his students. If they had been given a numerical value they would have been 6s at the very least.

Steve Girko studied with Drucker, who uses the world's hardest reeds. I think the two of them have a continuing competition over who uses the hardest ones. I can barely get a sound out of his setup.

Funny that Drucker uses hard reeds. His sound is not stuffy at all. Does anyone know what he plays on currently?
