Has anybody heard, seen, or used a power barrel? Are they any good? The first time I saw one was on Doctor's Products.

I have a power barrel and I really like it alot. It has changed my tone for the better. I have a Buffet R-13. I tried it last week on my Noblet which I use for a backup clarinet, and it made a world of difference on that clarinet too. I don't really know if it makes the clarinet play louder (I've taped myself playing it) but it certainly affected the tone in a good way. Also it has such a unique look to it, that people comment on how great it looks.

Definitely makes the clarinet loader - I use the Power Barrel to give me the extra volume I need playing in a large church group. It works!

The Power Barrel altered my pitch for the better and did add some volume to boot. My only reason for not using it now is that I sold my R13 for a Yamaha CSG-H. Now if the Power Barrel only came in a 52 mm version....

Barrels have so much influence on the tone! I bought a power barrel recently. I used it some in a playing situation. Tone is good...focused and clear and the loudness(intensity) is greater. Measured it with my db meter from radio shack. The difference in volume is not going to knock you over but it is audible. The barrel length is short so I pull out...I usually use a 66mm. The Power Barrel is 1 or 2 mm shorter. I would recommend this product for certain applications. I'm not sure I would play recitals with it but that is because it isn't my favourite sounding barrel. Nevertheless it sounds good. I also liked dealing with Omar.

Not to get off topic, but how do you like your CSG versus your R13. I tried a CSG at a noisy convention and it played beatifully. It must have made a signficant difference for you to switch...???

Dear Clarinet 60,
The CSGs are wonderfully in tune and perfectly adjusted right "out-of-the-box" literally. I did try the Selmer Signature in a loud convention setting and found it to also be a very good horn. Of course the CSG-H gave me the corrosion resistance of gold and was less money.
