Well... is it just the SF Bay area and Santa Clara Valley, or is there a complete lack of clarinet performance? Lots of piano, orchestra and violin. But only one clarinet listing for the summer, and that is a noon concert too far away. Perhaps I am looking at the wrong listings?

Thats more than we have had here in the Houston area unless you count one the pieces our com. band played on the 4th (Clarinade). I've seen ads for Japaneese drums, African drums, Steel drums, even oil drums (bunch of strange dancers), but nothing featuring clarinet. Its been a dead summer here. Did get to see a free (and excellent) jazz concert out at the college, but not a clarinet in the bunch.

Same problem with Classic Arts Showcase television and PBS radio. Most often, when they show videos of orchestras, they seldom show close-ups of the clarinets--its usually the oboes, flutes or bassoons--even if the clarinetist has the lead at the moment. Arn't we photogenic enough????? Maybe we all just have to "get out there" and educate the video crews, sound engineers and general public by "blowing our own horns" more often. Maybe you orch. clarineters should start standing up when you play your solos like the jazz guys and gals do. :>} lol etc. How about some more opinions out there in clarinetville? Good luck and good clarineting.
