I recently mentioned on a Benny Goodman thread that he also played cornet. Jimmy Dorsey also played cornet. For you jazz buffs, here's a trivia question. What other jazz musicians can you name who played both a reed instrument and a brass instrument?

Bob Enevoldsen, a West Coast sideman in the 50s-60s played tenor and doubled valve trombone, or was it played valve trombone and doubled tenor? (He was in, iirc, Merv Griffin's studio band in Hollywood when Merv had an interview/variety show.)
Also, contemporarily, Scott Robinson not only plays ALL the reeds (including sarrusophone and contrabass sax) but also ALL the brass (incl. opheicleide and cornet w/built-in mute)! What's really sick is, he sounds great on everything.

Current CBS Orchestra member Tom "Bones" Malone who plays mostly trombone, but often is heard doubling on piccolo and sax.
[BTW--while mostly a clarinet/sax/flute player, I can also hold my own on the trumpet & horn)

Polish jazz sax player Namyslowski started on piano, cello and trombone. He later switched to saxophone as his main instrument. A lot of Polish musicians are woodwind and brass doublers. Some of them also play piano as well as string instruments.

I can't believe I forgot Bones Malone! He's seen/heard on Letterman mostly on trombone, but every time the band plays their 20-second version of Stars and Stripes Forever he grabs his piccolo and plays the piccolo obbligato!

I thought there were more jazz nuts out there. How about:
Maynard Ferguson, trumpet and saxophone
Bob Brookmeyer, trombone and clarinet
Brad Gowans, trombone and clarinet
Murray McEachern, trombone and sax
Cannonball Adderley, sax and trumpet
Ira Sullivan. sax and trumpet
It seems to me that I've heard of others over the years

I used to know a guy who doubled bassoon & trombone as needed. Since he had to learn tenor clef, he might as well play 2 of the 3 instruments that use it.

I'm not famous at all but played Trombone also in high school, along with clarinet and bass clarinet. I've not played it lately but have now added alto sax and flute.
