I led a relatively sheltered life in the exhibits section and do not know the winner but will give a little tip to future contestants from the judges with whom I am friends (no names) and shared evening beverages with after the judging. They indicated that there were some amazing displays of technical merit - a little too fast in some cases for an orchestra to accompany - including speed, articulation, circular breathing, etc. but many lacked the "soul" and musicality of the music. They said - technically perfect in many cases but lacking any sense of conveying emotion or life to the music.

I don't recall the winner's name but he is from Puerto Rico. He was the last of 4 to play in the finals and his performace 'raised the bar'.
2sd place went to Rachel Athas, a sop at Cinn Conservatory. She then went on to perorm the Debussy in a Master Class with Russ Dagon.

Hello,
I had a very nice chat with the young artist winner and the orchestral audition winner. They both happened to be on the plane with me on the trip home.
I've forgotten the young artist's name, but he is from Costa Rica and is studying at Interlochen currently. He used borrowed clarinets for the competition. This summer, he is studying with Deb Chodaky (sp?), but she's not his regular teacher. He is a very pleasant, humble young man. I didn't hear him play, his attitude was admirable.
The orchestral audition winner is Leah Schwartz. She was equally pleasant and humble. She studied with Julie Deroche and is going on to college to study with Mr. Gilad in LA.
The event was overall very nice.

Hello,
I think there are some confusions about the two competitions ( Young Artist Competition and High School Competition).
The winner of Young Artist Competition was David Silva from Oporto, Portugal, and the winner of High School competition was the boy from Puerto Rico.
