I did some basic searches on the board but didn't come up with a discussion that focused on this question - only some isolated references to it.
I'm looking for a good edition of the Mozart concerto to buy (for A clarinet as opposed to a basset-clarinet reconstruction or Bb clarinet transcription).
I'd like it to be well printed and clear. Articulations and dynamics aren't a big deal - I can make my own informed decisions, consult a handful of articles/books. ask my newly retired teacher (or "graduated" as he prefers to call it), and reference a handful of recordings.
I didn't want to just buy the most expensive copy and hope, so...
What are your opinions on different editions of this work? What are your preferences? Are there editions to avoid? Any standard or exceptional editions?

Take the time to read Keith Koons' excellent article which was published in the May-June, 1998 issue of The Clarinet, Vol. 25, No. 3.
He critically compares the different published editions of K.622.

I like the Breitkopf edition. It's very easy to read, has good page turns, etc. The Kalmus edition is a reprint of the Breitkopf and is more economical.

The Barenreiter edition is the best in terms of leaving out articulations in order to let the performer put his or her own in. It's not overpriced and visually is very pleasing.

Urtext, urtext, urtext. Regardless of whether you will play it on a basset or not getting an urtext will help you really understand the relationship of the solo part with the orchestra.
