Hi All, Some weeks ago I picked up a Bb clarinet mouthpiece at a Car Boot Sale. It is in excellent condition,white in color, has a four figure serial number in gold on the side. On the top of the tone chamber is written in fancy schroll Artie Shaw also in gold .The tone chamber is slightly narrower than a Brilhart Tonalin and on both sides of the lay there is a 16th inch groove running about three quarters of the length from the back towards the tip. Does anyone know anything about this piece because I have never seen one before?? Best Regards Charlie

I think what you describe as a groove was for a special ligature that came with this MP. While I have never played one of these, as I recall from seeing the ads, it was a Brilhart special MP put out by that company ala This is What Artie Shaw Plays kind of thing.

I think that's fair comment Hank. It plays rather like a Brilhart 3. obviously vintage with the serial no. and so inclined to think you're on the right track. Cheers and thanks for your comment................Charlie

I have a Claude Lakey [in script] "light yellow" soprano Bb mp, with BRUNO [?distributor?] on the body up near the beak. Even tho I had to shorten the tenon because of damage [I use an O Ring to fill the space], its a good player, giving a "somewhat darker" sound. I believe that others have sold "light" colored mps, perhaps all made by Brilhart and stencilled ?? Don
