No larrb, I didn't go out with the Streisand tour this time. I played for her years ago when she did her act at Radio City Music Hall, and she packed the place (6,000 seats!).
I'm sure she and the NY band will do just fine in all those European cities.
Luckily for me, one of the guys asked to go was the House Contractor at WICKED, so he has asked me to take over the contracting duties at the show for the 2 months he will be on tour.
I'm working with a great bunch of NYC Broadway musicians, so the job is terrific, and the pay isn't too shabby either...!
Many here in town have benefited from tours like Barbra's in past years, I'm just glad these great artists are still insisting on using live orchestras for their tours and major concert events.

David, you are right on:
Local 802 AF of M, insisted on a first class tour for the NYC musicians that were chosen to travel with Barbra.
They are all being paid way above scale, with a very healthy per diem, and plenty of time off between shows. All in all, a great gig!
Their contract was filed at Local 802, and will be guaranteed, by the Federation, to follow all the provisions of the contract.
How's that for protection...!

It was interesting to read about the 29-year-old violinist, a New England Conservatory graduate who is barely making ends meet. I wonder whether she'd make ends meet if she were a clarinet player. It makes me wonder about the conservatory students discussed in the "classical music snobs" thread. Where will they be in a few years? How will their attitudes hve changed?
