 treating the reed no-sand zone

It is about 10mm from the tip, centered. I place a thin, small area, about 5mm diameter, of acrylic cement on it. Let it completely dry. Lengthens reed life, and seems to improve tone quality and responce in upper registers.

any pictures of the finished reed?

Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. they are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which was already but too easy to arrive as railroads lead to Boston to New York

Are you sure the cement is not a carcinogen?

So you ended up sorta 'reinforcing' the heart of the reed a bit?

Yes, please show us a picture and give test results. I developed a method for cross-linking the cellulose molecules in reeds that extended the useful life of reeds - made them a little harder however (a long term double blind statistically valid test with multiple participants) which is sitting on the "good ideas - not commercially viable" shelf right now. Reed manufacturers showed negative interest in a process for prolonging the life of reeds - I wonder why?
