If you are interested in hearing him more on bass clarinet he has a solo bass clarinet CD. I think it is available from a few places (I bought it from Walter Grabner).

Does anyone have any suggestions for what make/strength reeds I should start on? I've only ever tried to play bass clarinet once, and found it an absolutely wonderful and unforgettable experience, but can't remember which reed strength I used. I currently use Vintage XL strength 3 (Reeds Australia) on my soprano clarinets, but I might have to use a different reed strength for bass clarinet? Thanks in advance for any tips.

That's a hard question to answer, because the best reed for your mouthpiece and your embouchure might be a bad choice for someone else. If there's a good local music store nearby, see if the store keeps open boxes of reeds on hand to sell one reed at a time, so that people can try "one of each" without spending a fortune. The price on the individual reed will be higher than by the box, but lower than buying whole boxes and then getting stuck with a collection of unsuitable reeds. Or check with other bass clarinet players in your area and see if they'll sell you individual unused reeds. If no local store sells individual reeds, maybe some of you would like to chip in together to buy boxes of the reeds that look most promising, and share them.

I wish he would have demonstrated and/or explained how he plays an isolated staccato G#5. Also, what about the alternative fingerings for C#6 and above?? Most of his "stuff" was relatively basic information (although great)--just wish he would have gotten a bit more advanced.
Reeds? FWIW, I have good results with VanDoran 3.0 & 3.5's. Also, for those outdoor events or doubling situations, Legere 3.0 & 3.25's perform quite well.
Ligatures?? I have been using--like LB--a VanDoran Optimum lig, but have recently acquired a vintage Winslow that I think allows the reed to provide more resonance to the sound, low and high. I have a Bay lig that I do not like as well. The rails on the Vandy Opt and the floating pegs of the Winslow seem to make the big difference and I would recommend ligs that mimic those attributes.
Mouthpiece?? I play a Grabner CXBS (model discontinued in favor of the new CXZLB) and consider it to be the best bass clarinet mpc there is.
