I'm having trouble finding an answer to this:
Do Gonzalez reeds have some source in Europe or are they (were they) actually manufactured and distributed by Davie Cane. In other words, will they be extinct soon?
Also, what is the relationship to Mozart Reeds? Have these also, definitively, gone extinct as well?
Thanks,
Adam

According to the Leblanc web site, they are now the US distributor for Gonzales reeds. They should still be available, as far as I know. Gonzales reeds are made in Argentina. BTW... I saw them advertised on the Doctor's Products website last week.

I just checked the site at Woodwind & Brasswind, and they have the Gonzalez regular and FOF reeds in stock, ready for shipping.
If you go to the Gonzalez web site, there is a list of distributors worldwide. Click on the link on the left side of the page, and you will see a world map. From there, click on the continent, and you will get the distributors for that part of the world.

Is A. donax on the endangered species list?

Mozart reeds are reeds that are believed to have some association with Anton Stadler -- they are extremely aged. They were found amongst a collection of Mozart manuscripts in a vault in Salzburg, in boxes marked with the letters "AS". Some appear to have been "pre-softened", broken-in as it were, by the master clarinetist himself. These are extremely rare and the pricing reflects such. Some however, are marked "schlecht" (bad?); despite this, some players report excellent results playing these. They are available only from an Austrian distributor who must be begged for a response which usually takes six months to a year and he may not sell to you if he deems you an insufficiently serious player. Or you may find them on Ebay. HTH.

Mozart reeds are my weapon of choice. I order them from Muncy winds, their site says they have sizes from 2.5-4.5.

Yup. I hear that, in Florida, it's so invasive that it's a serious pest, crowding native marsh plants. I don't know whether growing conditions are right for the Florida cane to make good clarinet reeds, but anybody who wants some can probably find plenty that the property owners would love to have harvested and outta there.
