 OKLAHOMA ! [The Musical]
Author: Don Berger

We "retired friends" greatly enjoyed Sunday's perf. of good ole OK by our talented BVL High Schoolers, a "cast of hundred". Having played it several times and having seen many "lives", movies, and a DVD of the British "enlarged" version, I wish to ask our Musicals Experts as to how many versions are there? Our BHS perf. was very similar to the GB, with enhanced parts for Jud, Will and Ali via R&H Theatricals, not T-W as I recall. Will appr. all comments. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Hi Don:

The most contemporary orchestration of OK we did, was on Broadway in 2002.
It was OKLAHOMA 2002! and William David Brohn did the re-orchestrations of the originals.

They are probably still on the road, but are no doubt available from his library.

The original orchestrations are:

Oklahoma!

(Rodgers & Hammerstein Library)

Reed 1: Piccolo, flute

Reed 2: Oboe, English horn

Reed 3: Clarinet, bass clarinet

Reed 4: Clarinet

Reed 5: Bassoon

Our OKLAHOMA 2002! added:

Reed 1: Flute, Piccolo, ALTO SAX

Reed 2: Oboe, EH

Reed 3: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, SOPRANO SAX

Reed 4: Clarinet, FLUTE, BARI SAX

Reed 5: Bassoon

There's also a "reduced" road version available.

A good source is the Rodgers & Hammerstein Library (rentals only).

Many TKS, JJM, quite a progression from ?1942?. This is our OK Centennial Year [statehood as in the story] so we'll hear it again !! Before my memory goes, I'll re-play the Hugh Jackman DVD rendition to see if its what we saw Sunday. Ah, musical history, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
