 Makeshift bonade

I had an extra selmer ligature lying around and since I've been outta school sick for a while, I decided to make a "makeshift" bonade. Its not inverted. What I did was I used my pliers that I use to change strings on my guitar and with the reed and the ligature on the mouthpiece, I started to bend the ligature to where the ligature did not touch the side of the reed. Has anyone noticed if this is as good as a Bonade? I'm heading to the music shop sometime next week to replace all my reeds which I threw away today due to mono and I'm looking for a tone upgrade with reeds, and a ligature. Rovner ligatures don't cut it for me and I like the sound of metal ligatures, mainly the Bonade.

"Rovner ligatures don't cut if for me"

Have you tried the Rovner with the screw mechanism on the reed side of the mouthpiece? I don't like them with the soft material on the reed but find the results with the screw on the reed side quite satisfactory. Happy hunting.

Very good, Bub - when I go hunting for "dark", I use the "fabric-rubber" ligs with the two bars on the sides of the reed and, being right-handed, reverse the tightening screw assembly. Works well for me. For greater reed-security, I think the two Bonade versions are hard to beat. PM thots, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
