And if you read the RED, BOLD text at the bottom of every Classified page, you will see:
"Please be aware that many scams are out there. A very common one is someone sending you a certified or cashier's check for significantly more than you're asking. In every case this has been a forged check! People should only send you the amount you're asking, and even then you should wait for the check to clear before sending the merchandise. Talk with your bank if you're the least bit unsure."
It's a pretty obvious scam, but people fall for it every day since most of us don't deal with cashier's cheques on a daily basis and somehow think they're "secure" instruments.
You'll never get the guy or gal, either. They operate out of Internet Cafes and do it for a living.
This kind of scam on the Internet is always easy to spot. They send you a paper document and want Western Union/wire transfer back to them or their cohort - and Western Union/wire transfers involve "real" money, not just some piece of paper. Easy way to shut them up: ask for a Western Union transfer to you rather than a cashier's checque. After all, we know that they have access to Western Union ...

if he can't do a cashiers check, tell him do a money order.
