 New mp came- Hite Premiere

I got my Hite Premeire from 1stop yesterday. I played it and it sounds much better than my old mouthpiece (goldtone 3). I do have one problem with the Hite- I get tired quicker-if I play for 5 straight minutes, I'm getting leaks out of the side of my lips. I'm sure that's my fault though, so does it take time to get used to a new mp, or am I doing smething wrong?

also- do you have to "break in" a new mp in any way?

The "break in" here probably means "getting used to".
A different mouthpiece with different dimensions will have an effect on your embouchure - you might need to build up lip strength, take more or less piece in your mouth, even try a different reed.
I think it's like getting a new car - it'll take some time getting comfy with it.

I've gone the GoldenTone -> Hite road too and it took maybe a week to get used to the new "user interface".

The shape of the "beak" may change the position of your jaw when your upper teeth are supported on the mouthpiece --thus affecting the muscle deflection in your embochure.

And/or, the lay may call for a softer reed --if its longer and/or more open than your old mouthpiece.

the Hite seems to be more closed/shorter than the goldtone- what does this means for reeds?

It does take time to get used to a new mouthpiece, but make sure you have the right size reed. The reed (if you're getting very tired after a short amount of time) might be a major factor in you getting tired.

I've found that I need different reeds for different mouthpieces. Try half a size lower than you'd been using on the Goldentone. Maybe after your embouchure adjusts, you'll want to go back to the stiffer reeds, though, so don't throw them out! Uh-oh, I'm trying to corrupt you, aren't I?--trying to turn you into an obsessional reed hoarder-collector like most of the rest of us.... ;-)
