 Kohlert Clarinet Question
Author: c_man
Date:   2007-03-07 02:27

Hello all, this is my first post here on the BB. I'm looking to find some information on a clarinet that was given to me about 10 years ago as a gift. I never played it all too often, seeing as it has the Albert's fingering system and seems to be pitched/tuned to 442.

Anyways, it is a wooden Kohlert-Winneden Clarinet, stamped with the serial number 104630. I've tried a few Google searches for information on Kohlert Clarinets and all I seem to find is info on vintage Kohlert saxophones, which is not what I'm looking for.

Any tips or nods in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Very Respectfully,
c_man

Do a search through the BB archives. There isn’t much out there on Kohlert history, but several people here have managed to piece together some good information. Amati took over the Kohlert works in Czechoslovakia when they moved to Germany. Amati’s website has a little on Kohlert. Your serial number is very high. I suspect that your clarinet was made just before Kohlert closed down. Since Albert/Oehler clarinets were made for the European market, the 442 pitch seems right.

I don't have a serial number list for Kohlerts, but their Winnenden, Germany era was approximately early 1950s through their demise in the very early 1970s. I have/had some alto and bass clarinets and alto saxes from this era and they've all been good instruments.

Thanks for the feedback all. Looks like I'll have to do a little more digging!

Thanks again!
