This link was mentioned on the Sax on the Web bulletin board.

Here is a very detailed PhD study of the jazz clarinet style of Johnny Dodds.

Musical analysis, examples and the solo transcriptions of 6 pieces are contained.

Thanks indeed, GBK, for sharing!

I just finished playing through Canal Street Blues, then listened to the original 1923 King Oliver recording (with Louis, of course). What fantastic music!

Great job of transcribing by Ms. Martin. Next, I'll read her thesis.

Thank you GBK for posting this invaluable study on Johnny Dodds.

Have you seen anything of this quality on Jimmy Noone, Edmond Hall, Omer Simeon, George Lewis or Buster Bailey?

Thank you GBK for this facinating material. Ms. Martin's research is truly outstanding. I printed off the transcriptions of Canal St and Wolverine Blues and will begin practicing on my albert/oehler system clarinet.
