Good Reed size after long absence?

I still have some reeds in my stash, but what would be good for beginning again? I forgot. Also, what are your thoughts on advancing to thicker sizes? When? To those quite accomplished: what size reed are you favoring at your advanced level?

Okay, and the dreaded question...what is your reed brand preference?
Do you buy expensive ones or reasonably priced ones.

I would love to know all your thoughts about reeds and what you like and why if you would like to share.

Thanks bunches.

P.S. When I first started, my teacher was making sythnethic (sp?) reeds and I bought one from him that I really liked and wow did it ever last and didn't splinter, etc. I did use my share of natural reeds too.
No clue where I would get any of those the teacher made anymore, this was even in a different state from where I live now. I have to say though, they were nice.

Oh and another P.S. How do you all take care of them? Clean them? Dry them? I forgot reed management. Thanks again.

Try a 2 to begin with, and see how it plays.

After use you can either leave them to dry in the plastic holders they came in, or a plastic reed guard or reed case.

Or leave them on the mouthpiece like I do!

With due respect, ElkLady, the issues you raise have been hashed over here many times and a "Search" will give you many ideas. If you want to "chat" about them maybe putting your email address in your profile will entice someone with the inclination to respond directly.
