Hi Ken- No, I'm not sure of the "date-period" of the RI's, but my Full Boehm [RI engraved] is from 1933 and I did have an earlier Model 25 [I'm told via Debbi Reeves] FB which is now displayed in The USD Natl. Music Museum, Vermillion. I believe the Model 9's [BT's?] followed the RI's, in turn followed by the CT's, which are much loved by Selmer owners, include me. I recall some discussions of Selmer history [help please, GBK ] where model dating may at least be approximated. I'd suggest it might be part of the 1930's [the Great Depression, and the development of Radio], my junior/ senior high school and early college days. An interesting history time for Leblanc as well, with of course, the Buffet symphonic "expansion-dominance". AM thots, Don

I'm not sure of exact time frame, but they were after the K model and before the BT. Just a few years in the early 30s.
They had the same bell logo as the K model .

the 55 was between the BT and CT, in '45 and '46, and were in the 2nd half of the M series. i have one with M61xx as its serial no.
it was owned by Marc Howe who was a doubler with the Artie Shaw band in the '50's. i bought it from his son. if anyone has any info on him i would be really appreciative.

An alternate Selmer serial number chart was put forth on the web about 4-5 years ago that places the L series later in the 1930s than the "official" chart. I have a copy of this but am not sure I can attach it here (it is not my original work). The author has sort of "disappeared."

I think I may be the author of said list, my name is Kev Foster. It was on my website five or six years ago. I let the website lapse when I went thru a couple of years without a home internet connection, then the computer it was stored in got killed by lightning. Please do post it here, if you don't mind.
I'm working on improving that dating. It's tricky. Selmer's own website www.selmer.fr gives seemingly contradictory data:
1926 Le logotype "Selmer" est changé, le dessin précédent étant trop proche de celui de Buffet-Crampon
1934 Sortie du saxophone modèle "Radio Improved"
The logo change is around K4500, the Radio Improved (which one would expect would coincide with the namesake Saxophone) begins around K7000. How could there possibly be 8 years between?
I had a catalog dated, I think (it's not in front of me right now), 1929 or 1930 that advertized new design features (sturdier posts and thumbrest, etc). I have a K5xxx that does *not* have these features although it does have the modern logo. This makes me think K5000=1926 is right and K8000=1934 is wrong.
I need to try to dig out my old Selmer catalogs, or rather the photocopies another enthusiast was kind enough to share with me, and recheck against them. I plan to get my website back up, one thing I'd like to have is an online archive of old Selmer catalogs. Also a list connecting serial number and model to bore diameter. Where can I get a bore gauge?

Your old site is probably preserved on the Wayback Machine, http://www.archive.org/index.php. Enter the URL, pick a version that has the Selmer SN list and let us know. Or if you don't have time, just post your old URL.

Oh my God, this is weird!!!! Do you know how LONG I have held onto that list of alternate dates/serial numbers?
How cool that you are the author. I've attached the document. I must add that sopranos did have three-digit serial numbers. My B-flat L-series has a three-digit number.

My Many TKS, also, it changes the years of my 2 old Sels. My Winged Globe[in A] is 3671, now chg'd to 1928, my RI FB [with metal-lined barrel] is L1306, now 1931. My CT P9701 was/is? 1954 a dern goodie!. TKS, Don
