my teacher have this magasine from BC in his office.
and instead of the Tosca, there is a modell called Elite!!
what on earth is that? i have never seen one "live" and never seen anyone talked about it here on the site while i'd been active. only when i have made a search i have found some. and that doesn't tell me anything! not even on the buffet site i find anything at all!!! and that is kind of strange!
have they changed the tosca to the elite?
cause to me the elite looked alot better. and way more exclusive!!!

Your teacher needs to get a new catalogue...

The Elite was manufactured from the late 1980's until about 2002. It had a thin-wall, lightweight body of premium quality Grenadilla wood. It's easy to identify as all of the tenon rings are of black carbon fiber. It was manufactured in the keys of Bb and A.

The Elite was released in the late '80s as Buffet's top level clarinet above the Prestige.

The joints were narrower in diameter than other Buffets, carbon fibre socket rings instead of metal, inserted toneholes in some places, domed pad cups, gold plated pillars, more adjusting screws and flute-style screw in washers for the large pads.

These have been discontinued for some while now.

A beautiful instrument as described in the above posts. Was in fashion for a short time. Not very like any other Buffet horns in response or scale.

Some play great. Others not so great at all.

I find the low F and E to be poor (though the rest of mine is very good; super fine across the break). Apparently Buffet did as well since they added an extension to the horn in the last few years in an attempt to fix this problem.

No one seems to want them, so if you find one they are pretty cheap.

One comes on the auction site about once every 6 months. I have yet to see one sell.

M.
