 Requiem

I handed a student my 20+ year old Bonade Inverted ligature to try last night, with the hopes of enticing him to buy one.

As he was tightening the bottom screw on it, we both heard a bad-sounding *snap* and, yes, the metal is now cracked and the lig is no longer sound.

I ordered another one from Muncy (one with the "cut-out" feature) today, but I'm still sad, cause we know they don't make 'em like they used to!

:(

I too was (am) a fan of the old Bonade inverted lig. However, although I still have a couple originals, I prefer to use the VD Optimum with the parallel rail insert. For me, it plays the same as the old Bonade, but without the constant readjustment hassel. Expensive, so try someone else's first if you can. I would bet that you will like them as I do. I actually have two in my clarinet case--one for my main Kaspar mpc and one for my Bay backup so I don't have to switch when I switch mpcs (I know--overkill, lazy, excentric, etc). BTW, I also use a VD Opt lig on my Grabner bass clarinet mpc (at least, until I can acquire a Winslow bc lig).

did it break at a solder point? if so, it can be soldered back by a good repair person.

I don't believe it was at a solder point. It was just to the left of the reed-holding plate on the bottom ring. I don't believe repair is an option, as the fracture is too close to the rail.

Hopefully the cut-out Bonade offered by Muncy will at least have had a little more attention paid to it than one straight from the factory!

mk, where would you advise I look for a vintage one? (Other than the unmentionable auction site...) And without offending the powers that be in charge of not posting commercial sites...
