What in your opinion makes the BG Super Revelation better than the Rovner Eddie Daniels II. I realized today when I played on my Selmer Paris ligature I had a better projection and when I switched to my Rovner my reed was muffled off. I know they both have the metal plates and I know that words from the advertisement are from advertisers who want you brain wash you. I just want to know what makes the the BG better than the Rovner or vice versa. I'm planning on ordering them since my local store doesn't have any in stock.

For me the BG Super Revelation wasn't very focused sounding and finding good reeds was difficult(made good mouthpiece bad). The Vandoren leather ligature is very focused, way to focused for me and it don't project enough. I also had trouble finding good reeds. The Rovner Eddie Daniels is for me focused, flexible and very reed friendly. I also like the Bay Rhodium ligature but it's a bit too bright for me. But out of all the ligatures I've tried BG are worst.

Disclaimer: I prefer the Rovner and own it, after trying out both extensively.
I find the Rovner's biggest strength and weakness its variability; the plates are rather annoying to store, but they really can make a marked difference in resistance. The BG is nice if you like the Rovner with the smaller plate (or no plate) and exposed metal. I found that the Rovner "agreed" better if it was a little bit looser than you'd expect, with the result that it can twist off if forced (not fun if you switch to your A and don't carry over the same barrel). The BG, on the other hand, has very little variability (for better or for worse; for me it was a 'worse') but is just as solidly made, and usually cheaper where I've shopped. The BG seemed -slightly- brighter in the chalumeau. That's about all I can say, both played nicely for my instructors/partners and I.

The BG Super Revelation is one I've used for 10 years now. I tried everything I could get my hands on to try (including the Eddie Daniels and the Vandoren) and decided it was best for me. I found the color of the tone darker than when I used the ED or the Vandoren and the articulation a bit easier. BUT, when playing Klezmer and needing to do those little slide thingies the BG (as well as the ED or Van) would not work. So, I decided to try the Pyne string ligature and use that almost exclusively now. It allows for more flexibility of sound than the BG Super Revelation. However, I'm not getting rid of the BG because it's an excellent choice and it remains in my case with the favorite mouthpieces and tuning barrels.

I played the BG for a couple of years and then switched to the Rovner for a couple of years and have now switched to the Vandoren Optium. For me the Vandoren Optimum is perfect. The reed stays in place (the reed with the rovner and Bg could move a little left to right unless you realy tighten it a lot which dulls the sound) and the reed vibrates more quickly. I find that the added response using the Vandoren Optimum gives me more control over the sound I'm producing. I can get a dark sound as well as a lighter bel canto sound and this was something I could not do with the Rovner or Bg. I also find it easier to project my sound with the optimum or the Bonade for that matter.
I do think the Rovner and BG are good ligatures and each person will have a different opinion and desire something different from a ligature. I really like the security the Optimum provides when playing and switching instruments. I also enjoy not having a big piece of leather/material on the mouthpiece.
