Rossi Ivory Ring on bell broke
Author: kenabbott

A piece about 1/4 long broke off. Will I have to send this back to Chile? Or should I take some of the ring off of one of my 3 unused barrels? Has anyone had this problem??

You must immediately destroy the entire clarinet, I'm afraid.

Can you glue it back on?

"You must immediately destroy the entire clarinet, I'm afraid."

Or you have to buy an entirely new clarinet since it's acoustics have ultimately been comprimised.

Please sent me the fractured Rossi. I'll let you know if I can fix it. If not, I'll destroy it for you --it won't hurt so much if I do it. And, you won't hear the noise.

Seriously, Ask Mr. Rossi for a new bell. Then return your broken part for repair.

Off-topic: I am reminded of an old rock'n'roll song by a former DC-area band, "Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band" -- the song was called "You Broke My Mood Ring".

Quick geezer test: Who remembers what a mood ring is?

I remember mood rings. Sadly.

Ken, you should be about a foot taller now that you've had both legs pulled by the best of the bboarders.

Seriously, you need to send the bell back to Rossi for repairs. I hope you have a back up clarinet. If not, maybe someone will loan you one. Not me, of course, because I don't have a back up anymore. Otherwise, it'd be on its way to you! :)

These are actually plastic rings, and they are primarily cosmetic. You can glue the pieces back together, but I would contact Luis directly and ask his advice. I believe you can contact him through his website, but if not, contact me at bradley.wong@wmich.edu and I will send you his email.

Thanks everyone! I won't need a loaner, since tis is but one of many clarinets I own, (although it's certainly the prettiest). I'll contact Luis.

Get Rossi to send you a ring. You, or a local technician can easily attach it.

Tenon socket rings are not only cosmetic, but also perform a function making it impossible to split the socket while inserting the tenon. IMO it is silly design/manufacture to make them from other than metal. I thought Buffet was the only manufacturer to do this (nickel-plated plastic, that is), and they have since given the idea up.

Get Rossi to send you a couple of spares for each tenon, under guarantee for the future, considering the nuisance value when this happens again, and the misguidedness of using plastic in a location needing structural strength. They probably cost about 10 cents each to make, 0.5 cents if they doubled as part of a BIC lighter. :-)

Ring replacement should NEVER be necessary on a clarinet.

"Quick geezer test: Who remembers what a mood ring is?"

sadly, I had a mood ring. and a mood rock, and mood tester (auto unions made them to test how stressed out ppl were getting - or calm)

I am not old, i just have extensive memory of old days gone by ....

I got four barrels with my Rossi. And a free lube on my truck. No, that was with my Leblanc.
