Antony Pay was in Israel for the Clarinet Days course. He played and conducted three concerts : in Jerusalem (YMCA Hall), Tel Aviv University and Rapaport Hall in Haifa. Tony played the Mozart Quintet with the Aviv Quartet in the first half of the concert and conducted the Gran Partita on the second. The players were students of the Buchman-Mehta School of Music at the Tel Aviv University.
Working with Tony and listening to his playing and master classes is a great pleasure and honor. This is the third time that Tony is teaching in the course.
The teachers in Clarinet Days course this year were : Antony Pay, Sharon Kam , Harri Maki, David Howard, Richard Lesser, Gili Rinot and Mauricio Paez.
120 students from Israel, Turkey, Italy and Finland participated in the mastter classes workshops and concerts.

Sarah -
That must have been great. I never go to a master class without learning something I hadn't thought of before. Is there anything that you can pass on to us?

Well, the subject of the course was clasical music for clarinet, so naturally
most of the master classes were around that subject.
I find it hard to describe in words what we heard in sounds. Mozart was the main issue as you can guess and Tony has a league of his own for Mozart's music and the classical style.
One of the days in the course was for young players (age 9-12) and some of them played for Tony. Today I asked one of the children what did he learn from Tony and he answerd : I learn how to cut sausage.... perhaps
Tony can tell us more about that (my English is not good enough).

I love the YMCA hall. Great acoustics. And, the food is pretty good in the cafe as well. Sounds like a wonderful event.

I thought it might be more amusing to invite (not necessarily wholly sensible) suggestions as to what that was all about:-)

I'm making my stupid pet human type this. Well, it's obvious, isn't it? The screech-stick demons, larvae of the v*cuum cle*ner and sired by the g*rb*ge truck devil, produce a tone that can cut through a sausage with ease. This hideous scream cuts through the ears of your innocent cat, too--your good, loving cat who only wishes you the best and gives you this advice for your own good: Down with the evil cl*rinet! Burn it in the fireplace! Run your car over it! But don't put it out with the trash, because its vicious father, the g*rb*ge truck, will pick it up, disgorge it into view of the human refuse collection minions and entice them with the lure of filthy lucre to sell the screech-stick to a flea market dealer, where my stupid pet human or somebody like her will buy it and return it to its primary function of slicing meat, destablizing the construction of buildings and torturing cats. No, no, destroy the monster altogether!
Ssssssssssssssssst!

Any one else has an idea how cutting sausage can help us play the clarinet better?

Well my teacher talks about the airstream being like regurgitating a giant sausage (partially my words not his...). Don't know where cutting this disgusting sausage comes into it...!
