 Hello, I have in my shop a H. Bettoney clarinet..says Columbia Model on it as well....made of wood ser#6090. Any ideas of  age??   Thanks !!

 I have an H Bettoney wood ser. # 4166 [below the left thumb hole] which is stencilled U S N[avy?]. I've never been certain re: WW 1, WW 2, or in-between.  I'd guess yours is of 1940-50 vintage since H B made many cls thru this time period, and model-naming appears to have been later.  Mine is still a "fair" [not real good] player.  Luck, Don

 Columbia model was a decent upper level student (but not pro model), and they included their better hard rubber mouthpieces with them, although labelled as "Columbia" model mouthpieces. USMC and some college bands had a number of these.  
 
The Cadet metal clarinets -often found in cases stamped with institutional names or military groups- had plastic mouthpieces, while the flagship SilvaBets got good Qualitie Superiure or Steel Ebonite mouthpieces.
