Hi, what can you tell me about the Selmer C85 120 mouthpiece?

Is it for advanced player?

 haberc,

Re "Is it for advanced player?".... probably, since it was standard equipment with my Selmer Recital in 1988.

I have tried a number of other mouthpieces with this instrument, but keep returning to the Vandoren 5RV (not lyre) which seems to work best for me. Your experience may be different.

Regards,
Hans

I play the whole line of c85s. the 120 gives a big sound, not as centered as the 105. it is harder to control though so i refrained from using it for auditions. i use it for jazz band where the clarinet in jazz is completely different. it came with my omega and i had an older 105 from another selmer paris and i bought the 115 when a store was closing down.

The C85 1.05 mm facing is the standard one on their new clarinets. It comes with a really soft reed and it played wonderfully for me: a number 2 Roy Mieir. These mpcs have a really short facing to explain their use of the soft reed and ability to make the high notes anyway. The deep baffle also contributes to the need for a softer reed more than another mpc of the same facing. I have always been a real shopper for different equipment and now have the sound that I want with another mpc, the Selmer CP100. Now if only I knew more notes.
