 C# to Bb Trill
Author: chipper
Date:   2006-11-20 12:49

We have a piece that calls for a C# to Bb trill for about eight bars. The other third plays C# to B natural, but I'd like to be true to the composer. Any tips on an easier fingering or technique?

Thanks

Carl

Hi Chipper - In which [of the 3] registers is this difficult trill located? I first assumed the Clarion, but in "The Pines of the Appian Way", on Alto cl, I have several difficult Chalameau tremolos [in the "quiet" section], and could use good advice also. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Try experimenting with pinch Bb and the top two side trill keys (your right index finger). One of those may sound very close to your C# and you can press/release those keys to trill to your pinch Bb. Maybe, maybe not. But worth a shot.

I am assuming that you are thinking of a tremolo from Bb5 to C#6 -

Play Bb5 with the standard fingering:

TR x x o Eb/Bb / o o o

Tremolo to C# using:

(no thumb/no register key) x o o Eb/Bb / o o o

...GBK

Thanks, will try both at this evenings practice. Living and learning.
